Weber Performer Grill

Review Of The Weber Performer Charcoal Grill

The Weber Performer Grill gives you great charcoal taste with the convenience of gas. A unique gas ignition system prepares your charcoal quickly with no muss or fuss on your part.

The classic Weber kettle shape is accompanied by a side table and a convenient bin for storing charcoal.

Partially assembled at purchase, the Weber charcoal grill is easy to finish at home so you can begin grilling quickly and easily. The heavy duty cart will make it easy to maneuver your grill around as needed.

You'll get many years of fine grilling out of this new model from Weber. The Weber performer grills are available in Black, Green and Dark blue.

What We Like

The Weber Performer Grill is so convenient. Pile the charcoal in the center and push the button. A few minutes later the coals are lit. Twenty minutes later, they are perfect for grilling.

No more dangerous lighter fluid! You get the great taste of charcoal grilling with the ease of a gas grill.

The large 22-1/2 inch grill offers plenty of cooking space. A handy storage shelf below the built in table is useful. The table provides plenty of work space for prepping or serving. Cleaning up the ash afterwards is a breeze with the removable ash catcher.

The grill is durable and lasts for many years of delicious grilling. An optional rotisserie kit is available for cooking hams, fish and turkeys. The small gas tank lasts a long time even with frequent use. Assembly of the grill is very easy.

Any charcoal that isn't used up can be reused the next time you fire up the grill. Just shut all the air vents when you are finished cooking and the grill will put out the coals until next time.

What We Don't Like

The Weber Performer Grill has a small gas tank that is five pounds. It is difficult to find a place that doesn't charge you the equivalent of a 25 pound tank when you want an exchange or refill. If you don't get the connection tight enough on the starter button, it won't have a good electrical connection and it won't work well.

The sparking mechanism also gets covered in soot easily. It can be cleaned with a wire brush.

The ash catcher must be emptied about every eight grillings. The interior of the kettle gets occasional deposits built up that are not easily cleaned off. The cart is difficult to move when the charcoal bin is full.

The price is very high for a charcoal grill. Be careful with the hose from the gas tank. It can get caught between the storage bin and the regulator, causing damage that may lead to a gas leak.

Summary

Overall, the Weber Performer Grill makes charcoal grilling easier. If you can afford the inflated price, it may just be the grill for you. Easy to use, it grills food to juicy perfection. By closing the vents when you are done, the fire is put out, leaving you charcoal to reuse with your next meal.

The latest redesign has made the charcoal bin easier to access. The best part is you don't need to fuss with dangerous lighter fluid any longer when using this grill. The biggest obstacle on this grill is the price, clear and simple.
