There is quite a large cooking area for such a compact grill...Weber Grill HistoryWeber gas grills began shortly after World War II. George Stephen was an employee at Weber Brothers Metal Works. Frustrated with trying to cook a good meal on his current grill, he went to work and cut a metal buoy in half, creating a round grill with a lid. Thus the classic Weber kettle grill saw the light of day. His new grill quickly caught on.Even though Weber's grill sold for much more than the normal grills in the early 1950s, once customers tasted the food cooked in it, they bought them as fast as they could. Weber Brothers Metal Works changed their name to Weber-Stephen Products Company. A few years later, George Stephen bought out the company and devoted his time to selling Weber grills. By the 1970s, Weber grills were popular nationwide. In 1985, Weber introduced their first line of gas grills. This was the Genesis series. Grilling with gas changed the face of grilling forever. |
