CharBroil Patio Caddie Gas Grill Review

The CharBroil Patio Caddie gas grill is perfect for apartments with small balconies or patios. Efficient and compact, it offers 187 square inches of cooking space. It is just the right size for a single person or a couple.

Lit with a push-button electronic ignition, the 10,000 BTU burner is up to the task of grilling chicken, fish or steak. The porcelain steel construction on the grill body resists rusting. Porcelain cooking grids are heavy duty and clean up easily. The grill lid features thermostatic handles for safety.

A sturdy plastic base supports the body of the Charbroil patio grill. It can easily be moved on the two wheels located on the base.

What We Like

The CharBroil Patio Caddie gas grill is easy to assemble. Its compact size is convenient and plenty big enough to cook for two, or even a few more. It heats quickly and easily. It is easy on fuel, too.

The cooking grates are easy to clean, and they are heavy duty. If you can get an older one, it will last you for years.

The high dome lid allows you to cook all sorts of great things, like beer can chicken, which has to sit upright.

What We Don't Like

The CharBroil Patio Caddie gas grill could use a heavier base. Newer versions are not as sturdy as older ones. This has affected the stability and integrity of the grill. There are no nuts or lock washers to keep screws in place.

The porcelain coating on the cooking grates has gotten cheaper, with portions of it missing in some cases. They do not clean as easily as on the older versions. Some customers have reported that upon arrival, the cast iron heat distribution plate was already rusted and falling apart, while their first one was still in good condition after three years of use.

The newer ones do not seem to get as hot as previous versions. The igniter seems to be hit or miss as to whether it will work well or not.

Summary

If you need a compact grill, the CharBroil Patio Caddie gas grill could be the one for you. Many people have been very pleased with this grill, using it for up to ten or more years. Some have had less luck with it, and complain of shoddy workmanship and poor performance. Shop around carefully.

If you like the look of this grill and are willing to give it a try, it is possible you will get one that will serve you well for many years. If you are only cooking for two or three people, this size will be perfect. The propane will last a lot longer than with a larger grill as well.
