Char Broil Charcoal Grill CB940X

This Char Broil charcoal grill is an updated version of the original. Built in the Texas style, this grill is basically a large box. Made of cast iron, it needs care in inclement weather, but in return it gives you excellent grilling capabilities.

It also offers a bit of nostalgia for those who remember the original grill made by the company that became Char Broil.

What We Like

The Char Broil charcoal grill is constructed very sturdily and will last a long time with proper care. An adjustable cooking grate lets you control the amount of heat your food receives for perfect results.

The side tables are removable, and they can be used as both carving boards or serving boards. The firebox is large enough to build a large fire so you can get enough heat. The grate is easy to raise or lower. It is made of heavy duty, pre-seasoned cast iron that will last for decades with proper care.

The front door allows easy access to the firebox so you can stoke the fire if needed. The body of the grill is powder coated steel. You can get optional accessories such as a rotisserie system large enough for a pair of chickens.

The built in hood thermometer lets you check your temperature easily. Char Broil does make a few different models for their charcoal grill… this allows you to choose one that is just the right size for your needs.

What We Don't Like

The Char Broil charcoal grill is a bit inconvenient in that the steel and cast iron needs extra care. It can't be left out in the weather like other grills. The powder coating must be protected from scratches or it may rust.

The grates must be cared for properly or you'll lose the seasoning on them, and they may need reseasoning from time to time.

Even with the wheels, the large size of this grill makes it difficult to move it long distances.

If you only need to cook for two, you may end up wasting quite a bit of charcoal bringing it up to temperature. This grill is costly, even without any options. Some grills are available that are its equal or better for less money.
